As is our great tradition, the VEC academic year ended in a special way with the ordinations of six men to the diaconate by The Right Reverend Terence Drainey of the Diocese of Middlesbrough. The ceremony took place this morning (12 July 2017) in the church of Santa Maria ad Nives at Palazzola. Bishop Alan Hopes of the Diocese of East Anglia instituted four of our seminarians to the Ministry of Acolyte today (9 July 2017) in the church of Santa Maria ad Nives at Palazzola. Congratulations to our six new lectors who were instituted today by Bishop Peter Doyle of the Diocese of Northampton. The lectorate mass took place at 11:00 am in the church of Santa Maria ad Nives at Villa Palazzola. The new lectors are Andrew Coy (Northampton), Joshua Dixon (Liverpool), Sean Elliott (Leeds), Alan Wasowski (Leeds), Oliver Welsford (Portsmouth) and Henry Woodhouse (Hallam).
Many congratulations to our five seminarians who were admitted to Candidacy for Holy Orders by Archbishop Arthur Roche in a ceremony held at the College church this evening. By receiving candidacy, Marco Egawhary, Ryan Service and John Waters from the Diocese of Birmingham; Benjamin Hilton from the Diocese of Leeds; and Francis Murphy from the Diocese of Southwark were recognised by the Church as being worthy of being ordained. Candidacy normally takes place in the fifth year of formation at the Venerable English College. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.
Bishop Paul Tighe, Adjunct-Secretary to the Pontifical Council for Culture, conferred the Ministry of Acolyte upon two of our students today: Hai Nguyen (left) and Josef Ottersen (right), both from the Diocese of Oslo. The ceremony took place during the College's normal Sunday mass at 10:00 am. We congratulate our new acolytes and ask that you keep them in your prayers as they begin their new ministry.
