The Venerable English College was the privileged guest seminary at this year's Lenten Oasis at the Pontifical Beda College. The Lenten Oasis is a tradition held on mid-Lent Sunday at which the Beda College host the staff and students of an English-speaking sister college in Rome for mass and festive lunch. Today's mass was presided by the Right Reverend Mark Davies, bishop of the Diocese of Shrewsbury. We thank the Beda College for their hospitality and continued friendship. Archbishop Jorge Patrón Wong, the Secretary for Seminaries from the Congregation for the Clergy, presided at mass at the Venerable English College on the Solemnity of St Joseph (20 March 2017). He stayed for supper and met the College community afterwards, during which the seminarians had the opportunity to ask him a few questions. In reply to a question about how a priest should manage a busy workload, the archbishop said that priests and seminarians should always do the best they can and, most importantly, love what they do. He also reminded his audience that formation does not just take place in seminary, but continues even after ordination. The VEC thank Archbishop Wong for his visit and the encouragement he gave the community.
