Four new Deacons for the Church

On Sunday 14th July Bishop Alan Hopes of East Anglia ordained four English College seminarians to the order of Deacon. As has been the tradition for many years the ordination took place in the Church of Our Lady of the Snows at Villa Palazzola, which for almost one hundred years has been the summer residence of the Venerable English College. After the Ordination Mass there was an opportunity to congratulate the new deacons and for their respective families and friends to meet each other and the rest of the college community over drinks and lunch. The new deacons are as follows:

  • Rev. Mr Alexander Balzanella of the Diocese of Westminster

  • Rev. Mr Dominic Jenkinson of the Diocese of Hallam

  • Rev. Mr Matthew King of the Diocese of Portsmouth

  • Rev. Mr Piotr Wygnanski of the Diocese of East Anglia

Alex, a keen runner who used to work for the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, will be returning to the college next year to begin a licence, as will senior student Dominic, a former builder in his families business, and Piotr, who used to work in the marketing and music industries.

Matthew, a native of South Africa, leaves the college this summer to spend his diaconal year in his diocese. We take this opportunity to thank all our leavers for all the things they have brought to the community and to wish them well in their future ministry.
