VEC seminarians serve for the Pope
Seminarians from the Venerable English College had the great honour of serving for Pope Leo XIV at the Easter Sunday Mass at St Peter’s Basilica this year.
The Mass, on Sunday 5 April, was Pope Leo’s first Easter Sunday since becoming Pope in May last year. It saw a crowd of over 50,000 people gather in St Peter’s Square for the occasion with millions watching around the world.
All Rome-based seminarians at the VEC were able to take part in serving, which included leading the procession to the altar on the steps outside of the Basilica and accompanying the Pope to the balcony for his Urbi et Orbi address.
This was the second time that seminarians from the VEC have been asked to serve for Pope Leo. A number of our seminarians served at the All Saints Day Mass at St Peter’s last year when St John Henry Newman was declared a Doctor of the Church.
This year’s Easter Sunday Mass in St Peter’s came at the end of a busy weekend for students and staff at the VEC. Well over 200 people attended each of our Triduum services in the main chapel with around 1,000 people visiting the college in total over the Easter weekend.
There are regular public Masses in the main college chapel on Sundays at 10am and Wednesdays at 6.30pm, but please check the homepage of the website for updates.
